The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Dermatology Clinic is responsible for the delivery of care to Veterans in the Primary Care Specialty Care Service. The LPN in the Dermatology Clinic provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families within the clinic. The LPN functions as a team member under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. Must be accountable for adhering to established policies, protocols, standards of care and standards of practice. The LPN in Dermatology Clinic assists and helps Veterans with wound treatments, skin injuries and various diseases of the skin. The LPN is skilled in the care of acne, eczema, skin cancer, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, hair loss and skin infections. Is familiar with surgical interventions, skin cancer types and treatments and topical medications. Will assist in the education of patients and families with dermatological conditions, provide support and nursing care. Will assist with clinic patient intake, minor procedures and biopsies, dressing changes, updating immunization records, documentation, diabetic checks, point of care testing including FSG and EKGs, if needed, vital signs and various clinical reminders. The LPN may assist the physician in the performance of skin exams and outpatient dermatological surgical procedures. They may provide both pre-procedure and post procedure care for Veterans who are undergoing treatments. Additionally, they should be prepared to perform wound care and be familiar with many types of dressings, topical medications and wound care routines. This is a very dedicated position with an active role in providing face to face patient interactions. The LPN should have the skills, knowledge and determination for self-direction and concentrated effort to carry out the most complex practical nursing care assignments. The LPN, like all Primary Care staff, will float within the facility areas as needed. Based on the needs of the organization floating may occur at the Community Based Outpatient Clinics including Sebring, Naples, and Port Charlotte.
