We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a School Health Nurse Practitioner!
In this role, the successful candidate provides physical examination, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, immunizations, management of chronic diseases, preventive health care and referrals for comprehensive health care in a school based health clinic. Role will be based out of J.H.S. 220 - John J. Pershing (https://www.schools.nyc.gov/schools/K220) and will follow the school calendar of 10 months.
Collaborates with School Health Providers and Director regarding case management issues and site specific issues
Functions as a child health advocate; provides health education and counseling, as appropriate
Communicates the findings of health and developmental assessments to parents. Identifies and manages acute illness and chronic medical conditions. Refers for specialty services as needed
Performs periodic physical examinations, developmental assessments and health screenings
Identifies the health status of student by eliciting an age appropriate health and developmental history
Maintains statistical information and provides information for reports
Precepts Nurse Practitioner students as appropriate
Coordinates services in a school based setting
Serves as a resource person for orientation and staff development of School Health personnel
Assesses responsibility for maintaining positive professional channels of communication with the School Based Health Care Team
Supervises non-medical personnel performance; makes recommendations and/or takes disciplinary action as necessary; confers with Director regarding implementation of disciplinary actions and/or terminations
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area
Master's Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing
Current New York State Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licenses (or willing to obtain)
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)
Ability to work autonomously as a Nurse Practitioner, as the NPs generally are the only health providers onsite
Experience as an NP treating Peds patients in either a school-based setting or a primary care clinic setting
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
