University Health Services (UHS) at Princeton University is a fully accredited (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, or "AAAHC") health care facility. Located in the McCosh Health Center, the Caldwell Field House, and Dillon Gym, UHS provides comprehensive health services to more than 7,500 Princeton undergraduate and graduate students, and specialized services to Princeton University faculty, staff, and employees who experience work-related injuries and illnesses, or who require consultations regarding international and travel medicine.

The Psychiatrist provides direct clinical services to our undergraduate and graduate student population, including urgent care and crisis intervention, psychiatric evaluations, time-limited medication management, on call services, campus liaison, mental health education, and community referral services. Also, UHS has an active Infirmary Service that provides 24 hour health coverage. As such, this mental health position involves the provision of primary after-hours, on-call coverage, assigned at the discretion of the CPS Director.
The Psychiatrist possesses sophisticated diagnostic skills and specialized knowledge in certain content areas, such as substance abuse, eating disorders, severe personality and identity problems, and affect regulation disturbances. The Psychiatrist demonstrates training and experience in risk assessment, diagnosis, the determination of appropriateness of treatment with medication, and management of those medications. The particular skill and knowledge set will be informed by a strong understanding of the full range of developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescents and young adults.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Care (90%)
Urgent care and crisis intervention
Psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessment, and pharmacological consultations
Serves on an on call-after hours rotation with other CPS clinicians
Performs specialized evaluations for students of concern: these include administrative, readmission, exit, and post-hospital evaluations
Uses clinical data to inform diagnostic assessments (DSM-V) and treatment planning
Serves as a mental health consultant to other University partners and stakeholders, and a community referral resource for students
Effectively manages the daily clinical operations, and/or development of new clinical services in response to changing needs of the student body.
Collaborates with Advanced Practice Nurses
Administrative Management (10%)
Participates in UHS, Campus Life, and University committees, as assigned by the Associate Director and Director.
Involved in other initiatives, projects, and activities, as assigned by the Associate Director and Director.
Performs other duties as assigned
Doctoral degree in medicine (M.D.) or osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited college of medicine
Completion of an accredited psychiatric residency program
Board certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
Evidence of significant experience working with severely troubled patients and/or on a psychiatric inpatient unit, or the functional equivalent
Ability to combine strong clinical psychiatry and collaborative practice skills within an integrated health care organization which offers a broad range of medical, mental health and health promotion services to students. Further, the successful candidate will possess
Clinical expertise in evidence-based psychopharmacological practices
Clinical expertise in emergency management and crisis intervention
Cultural competence and clinical sophistication in delivering mental health care to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body
A strong understanding of the full range of developmental and mental health challenges affecting young adults;
Interpersonal skills and an ability to form a therapeutic alliance with college-age and graduate student populations
Collaborative liaison skills in order to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team at University Health Services, University administrators, faculty, and other community partners.
Demonstrated skills in: Psychiatric diagnosis and current psychopharmacological treatments, including a mastery of DSM-V nomenclature and recent clinical research
Ability to work closely and collaboratively with other mental health clinicians in providing team based care to patients and in conducting assessments and requested evaluations;
Ability to assess the need for psychiatric hospitalization, handling psychiatric emergencies, and coordinating inpatient care both at UHS and with area hospitals.
Prior experience working in a university mental health service or a comparable healthcare system
Clinical sophistication in the evaluation and treatment of alcohol and other substance use disorders
Advanced training in psychopharmacology as well as the interface between physical illness and mental illness
Additional training and experience in the psychological care of late adolescents and young adults with the following subspecialties: attention-deficit and learning problems, psychological trauma, or severe personality psychopathology
Training and experience in short-term or time-sensitive models of treatment.
